Wifi works, Lan does not.

My laptop's LAN port does not work yet my wifi works flawlessly, the thing is that my college's wifi is very slow, wired is so much better, when i do check to see what's wrong it says that "the default gateway is not available" , did some research, dhcp is enabled and the drivers are updated, i really can't figure out what's wrong, help?

More about wifi works lan
  1. Does it light up when you plug the lan cable in? Also check the bios to make sure it is not disabled for some reason. What is the status of it in device manager? Try a different cable. Good luck!
  2. If it's the schools LAN call them. they know how it's set up and have replacement parts if needed.
  3. it does light up when i connect the cable, or any cable for that matter, and some time ago i checked the bios but found nothing in it mentioning the lan port being disabled, and it says in device manager that it's working perfectly (lies i tell you lol).

it's not a problem with the schools network, my friends connect their laptops just fine, i'm pretty sure it's my lan.
  4. do you get an ip address? start run cmd type ipconfig and post you results. You school may use a proxy server. Check your lan setting against your friends that is working. Something must be different.

  6. well i can't find a solution except thinking the lan is dead, maybe missing some pins or there damaged, gonna think of sending it in for repairs (warranty), just didn't want to do that because classes just started, also thank you all for your help.
  7. update: thanks everyone who helped me out with this, sent it in for repairs a long time ago and when it came back it actually worked but at my place, it still doesn't at my university, so they did fix it but im guessing the uni blocked my LAN connection specifically (can use adapters, attach a wifi to the lan cable, use a lan cable to the wifi that is connected to the uni lan, all of those work, also running Windows 10, so yea not a glitch in the OS).
