We have been looking at parts for weeks and finally decided today is the day we are ordering everything. Here is our parts list.

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

I am wondering if anyone can inform me what the difference between the motherboard we have chosen and the Z97 Gryphon? From what I saw, the Gryphon looks inferior and cost about $40 more. I also cannot stand the way the Gryphon looks without the armor on.

The second part is the ram. I am looking for the best 16gigs of ram that the motherboard can handle while still looking aesthetically pleasing. This case has a window on it and we do not want it looking like shit from the outside. We also need to make sure there will be no clearance issues. Thanks again for the help. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

One last thing. We dont have to go with a Z97 board if it is not worth it. We would like to stick with a high rated mobo, and are looking mostly for stability. Thanks again.

I would also consider the Gene but the reviews are mediocre.

Do you want a micro ATX board for a specific reason?

This Pc is for my grandfather. He has a custom built desk with a small opening for it, about 18 inches high. We measured and the 350D will fit perfectly in there. I told him numerous times to go full ATX, but this is what he wanted.

If it is one of the best, why can it not handle high ram speeds? Forgive me, I am a noob. Do you think 16gb of Corsair Dominator 1600 would be fine, or would I be better off bumping up to 1866 if I stuck with the gryphon?

I also bumped the GPU down from a 780ti SC to a 780 6gb SC. I did this because reliability is our number one concern, with speed and performance being second. I read a ton of reviews on new egg and amazon, and the 6gb 780 seems to be the most reliable out of all the high end evga cards.

Thank you legend. What color dominator do you think looks better with the gryphon, Gold or Silver? I almost want him to go to with the dominator platinum.

I know this PC is overkill for what a 75 year old man can use it for, but I am hoping that it will be powerful enough to run Evolve and Skyrim when I stop by his house.

can anyone explain to my why the gryphon would be a better choice over the asus one I have picked out already? they seemed to be almost identical but one could handle faster ram, looked better, but couldnt SLI. I dont think we will ever sli. Are there any other reasons why I should choose the gryphon?

Alright, here is the final build list.

Please let me know if there is anything you guys do not like or would change. Is there anything that will cause a bottleneck?! I am leaving for the PC store in about an hour. Thanks again for all the help!!

Looks great, ram and cpu are overkill even for skyrim and you don't need a h100i unless you oc

I could go with this for an extra $40. Think it would be worth it?

Legend, I figured we would have more clearance over the ram with the h100i. I still like the evo 212 a lot! tough choice and we are still on the fence about it. My grandpa is super excited about this right now and I am excited to post this build on reddit with a few pics of him in it!

I'd suggest a i5 4690k, 8gb of ram and no cpu cooler, cause your grandad won't be ocing

Ahh a h80i will be better cause a micro atx case doesn't have a lot of fan support so a h100i will use up nearly most of your fan spots, either get a h80i or a noctua nh d12s, which is a low profile air cooler

I told him the same thing. I know this is over kill but this is one of the last things he wants to do..He's not in the greatest health. So we decided to say fuck it and go all out. Money was not an issue, and we could have sli'd and ran 2 SSDs at the same time, but I was not comfortable setting up that kind of stuff for him.

Hey legend I really appreciate the help. This is the build we are going to go with. I am taking him to the PC shop right now to get a second opinion but have a feeling the list will stay exactly the same. I will be ordering all of the parts on amazon this afternoon. I am even thinking of scooping up a backplate for the 780. They are very nice looking. Too bad the gryphon armor isnt out right now. It would look sweet in there!

sorry, again. one last thing. He is concerned about the h100. Thinks its going to leak all over. I told him It wont. I know you think we should get a smaller corsair but I have seen the h100i fit in the 350d. Are there any high rated air coolers that you recommend other than that noctua, apparently that one is large.

I like the dark rock 2 but cant find it, and the store recommended the thermalright True spirit 120m. I want to make sure there will be enough ram clearance, low song, and looks nice. Im still leaning towards the h100 even though it wont exactly be needed since we wont be overclocking.

A noctua nh d12s would work, it's a low profile cooler
