I was thinking about getting an H100i and I was wondering; how often should the H100i be refilled?

More about : h100i refilled

It should not be refiled it is a closed loop cpu and does not require meintance. If you had a custom loop then you would have to refill it every 5 month.

So I will never have to refill the H100i (default). But I would have to refill the H100i if I use custom tubes and/or custom fluid?

It can never be refilled so if it leaks or breaks, it has to RMA under warranty or thrown away after warranty.

Wait so how do I use custom fluid or custom tubing?

You cant use custom fluid or tubing the tubing is sealed if you want to get custom tubing or fluid and colours you need to spend $300+ for a decent loop. You cannot do any modifications to the water coolers you buy you need to get custom pumps, rads, resovoirs and tubing from companies like Swifttech, Alphacool, EK and XSPC.

Ok Thanks for your help. I'll give you the solution but if I want to OC to 5 GHZ on an i5 4960k would it be better to get an H100i or a custom water loop? Also if I get a custom water loop how often should I refill it?

Extra: How much higher can I OC with a custom water loop than an H100i?

You wouldn't clean out a custom loop every five months unless you bought some poor coolant. For coolant, you clean it about after 8 months in general. For water, you wouldn't need to clean it out for over a year.

The world record overclock for the 4690k is about 5.5 I believe, so 5GHz is not what I would go for.

There are many better options than the H100i.

A custom loop will allow you to push as far as practically possible (depending on the rest of your parts) IF you have the amount of radiator surface area needed. With water cooling, it is all about the radiators.

And also, there are expandable AIO coolers, such as the cooler Master Glacier 240l, And the swiftech H220x, H220, and H320.

5GHz probably won't be possible on an H100i as it uses a very slim 240mm radiator. It is rather a poor option compared to an H110, and H105, or really any other AIO cooler in its price range unless you have very little space for a radiator.

However, a custom loop will allow you to push as far as practically possible IF you have the amount of radiator surface area needed. With water cooling, it is all about the radiators.

So what parts would you recommend for my water cooling system then? I have room for 120mm and 240mm radiators.

I have a CM Storm Enforcer and I'll be switching to an LGA 1150 ATX Motherboard sometime in the future.

Make sure whatever motherboard you get doesn't have heatsinks at the top of the board. Also, where would you put the 240mm rad in the case?

For the custom kit I was planning on putting the radiator on the outside so size isn't an issue unless it's more than 4ft. long.

You should watch alot of youtube watercooling tutorial so when you assemble the build you know how to approach things.

You case supports a 200m radiator at the top, and you could install a 140mm radiator at the back. you said that you can use a 240mm radiator, is that at the bottom or front perhaps?

And also, what are you overclocking for? Honestly a Noctua NH-D15 or Kraken X41 will be just fine for an overclocked a little under 5GHz.

I'd like to get the highest possible speed with stable core temps.
