Mice not working well

Where is the proper forum to ask a question about mice?

I seem to be having trouble with my wired Logitech MX 518 wired mouse as well with my Logitech wireless mouse. The wireless mouse is currently working a little better than the wired mouse.

The wired mouse's wheel no longer works as well as it used to. It's probably 5 years or more old. I use it a lot everyday. The wireless mouse is a "Performance Laser" I can't find the model number, it's worn off or illegible. It's about 3 to 4 years old.

My question is what controls the mouse? The mouse itself or some part or function of the mother board, CPU or graphics/video card?

What is most likely failing here? The mouse itself just being worn out or a more major component of my computer? The mousing surface? Do you really need a mouse pad anymore?

Any suggestions on buying a new mouse? Wired or wireless? Brand? Logitech, Microsoft or Gigabyte? I'm not a gamer. I do use the wheel a lot. The back and forward buttons not so much anymore for some reason.

Thanks for your input and knowledge. I appreciate it.

The device manager controls the mouse and that is part of the motherboard. The mouse just sends signals to the PC and it moves. Your mouse is just worn off after lots of scrolling. If you like your mouse just try it on another pc and see if the wheel works. If it doesnt then its just the mouse and i suggest getting the logitech mx performance mouse because you are not a gamer and its very comfortable for browsing or doing work.

Thanks Best Answer.

I know I've worn out a lot of keyboards and a couple of Microsoft mice.

Good suggestions. I'll also start shopping for a new mouse. Yes, I don't need a gaming mouse. I bought the Logitech MX 518 cool look with the "dents" in it. I don't use the back and forth buttons too much any more.

Thanks again.
