I always rely on onboard video card but lately I have to install one.

Many of the very expensive cards can run 4 display at the same time. This is the part of the specs that I don't understand.

How does this work? Is it something equivalent to 4 computers and on each display it can run its own independent apps? Or is it still one PC but instead of running apps in the background, it put the background apps in the other monitors? Since there is only one mouse and keyboard, how do you move from monitor 1 to 2 or 3 or 4? It will be the biggest surprise of my life if somebody will tell me that each monitor gets its own independent mouse and keyboard like it's 4 independent computers.

Pardon me for these noob questions.

It's the latter - it's just one computer with multiple desktops. You get your mouse cursor to go into other monitors by just moving the mouse towards whichever monitor you want to use - for example, if there is a monitor to the right of your "main" monitor just drag the mouse to the right and the cursor will "jump" to the next monitor.

It's simple. Think of each monitor as one piece of a big monitor, each monitor just extends the other monitor into making one big monitor. That's the simplest I can tell you. None of the monitors are independent, they all work together into making one unified screen.
