I noticed the power supply fan only turns on when the computer is starting and then there's no sound. Is this normal for this power supply? I'm actually not sure if it's still turning when there's no sound...

Recently I've noticed the red light near power button (desktop computer) is on/blinking...and occasionally the computer would freeze and require a restart. Is this due to power supply not working? I'm using windows 8.

Thanks!

The power supply is PROBABLY FAILING you should replace it.

Tier 5 - Other than the units listed above for any of these brands, NOT RECOMMENDED. Replace ASAP if you have one.

that unit used to be made by HEC. im not sure if newer models have been taken over by CWT. Either way they are both kinda meh (average at best) and like Blackbird said, look into a new one. This time from a reputable brand. Any AX Corsair or sub 750W HX unit. Anything from Seasonic or XFX will be good. The not super cheap Antecs (usually not even rated) are most of the time a Seasonic unit (probably anything bronze or higher certified). The minimum of bronze certification should go without saying.

Ahaha. Sorry guys. I made a mistake on the model of PSU I use because I didn't actually check my computer. I was checking an notebook. My receipts say something else.

I am actually using Corsair GS800.

EDIT: I think I was researching it a year or two ago and didn't update my notebook when I made the purchase. Haha.

Yea, it wasn't that cheap...

But if it's causing the flashing red and freezing computers...then that means it's time for it to go? Even though it's only 1.5 years old-ish?

yes but a lineup of three all from the same manufacturer. i think its time to go back to Antec or Seasonic (or XFX). Antec is generally cheaper (and still sesasonic made). All XFX units a re-branded Seasonics.

For example the capacitors in the Antec HCG (high current gamer) 620W (which is a re-branded Seasonic S12II 620W) has a thermal limit something like 85 degrees and the S12II has a thermal limit of 105 degrees on its caps. Still a very high quality unit but one could expect the Seasonic will probably last longer.

So i imagine this is how they make Antec's slightly cheaper than Seasonics. I have the HCG 620W and its been good to me so far, only been about a year.

Okay, just ran memtest with the windows tool. No memory problems. Also checked hard drive for errors. None as well.

I'm gonna check for windows update (I'm on windows8). Maybe updating would help.............?

how long did you run memtest86 for?

i would burn a CD/DVD with Memtest86.iso and boot into it, but it might not be necessary if the new PSU fixes everything.

I don't understand what you mean. But I think the cause of it might be my hard drive's dying. I'm not done updating yet. Will also run a virus scan + defrag after.

Reason is because in the task manager/performance, the "disk" is usually very high or at 100%, which then causes the lag - which may lead to freezing up computer (and of course, it is still flashing red).
