I have an Arris TM822G/CT modem that I am connecting to a Netgear R6200 by a 25 ft cat 5 cable, I am then adding in a Netgear 8 port unmanaged switch.. I connect the modem to the wieless router and it works, as soon as I add in the switch I lose internet completely.. I am at a loss, I have tested all cables and the switch they all work fine until I add them into the network

Can you try adding the switch directly to the modem without the Netgear router?

Just to verify your setup...

Network cable from modem to WAN (Internet) port on router?
Cable from numbered LAN port on router to switch?

I'd recommend testing the setup with just one PC connected via Cat5. First verify connectivity from the router. Connect the switch and connect your test PC only to verify connection.

You may want to specify any errors or connection indications that could help solve your problem.

Well, I thought it was not but I decided to test that again as I have plugged and unplugged so many times I was not certain.. so I unplugged everything from the switch, and connected it to the modem. I added one cable at a time and it worked.. I discovered that one short cable was plugged both ends into the switch, this one I eliminated ( embarrassed to admit this happened but OH well) .. I had internet connection with IP set to obtain automatically. I then set the modem connected to the wireless router and a cable from router set connect the switch. I thought I had set the wireless router to not use DHCP but that setting was not applied... so wireless router is handing out DHCP and I have connection o internet wireless too.. hard to believe the cable with both ends into the switch was causing this but it all works now
