I have a Phenom II x4 955 BE and I'm building a new computer. I want to use my 955 BE (which is perfectly okay for gaming) until I have money to upgrade to an FX 8350. I noticed that the 990 chipset AM3+ mobos on newegg say they support Phenom II CPUs. But Phenom II CPUs say they only support AM3 and AM2+ socket mobos. Which is true and can I use a Phenom II CPU on an AM3+ mobo. Here's a mobo I was looking at:

My current mobo is some cheap AM2+

yes, it'll support the phenom. The phenom specs sheet is a bit outdated most likely.

go to asus and your board and look over the cpu support list

if its like this gigabyte deal back in the day it should do both

http://www.gigabyte.com/microsite/274/mb-am3plus.html

according to this that board supports the 955

Ok thanks, that's really helpful because now I can get a new PC now and upgrade the CPU really easily later.
