Win7 to win8. Win7 still useable after upgrade

So i have win7 on my pc right now. If I would upgrade it to win8 could I still use the code on the win7 box to install it to another pc? So that i had one running win8 and the other running win7.

If you buy an "Upgrade" license, no. Upgrading to 8 negates the current Win 7 license.
If you buy a Retail license for 8, then yes, you can. Probably. Is the Windows 7 an OEM license? Was it preinstalled?
