Hi,
I have recently installed windows 8.1 on my sons pc, on a 250gb samsung evo ssd + a 3 tb toshiba data drive.

When I try to make a rescue disc (dvd), I am told it is not possible on this computer, due to some files are missing, these files are not specified.

What to do?

best regards.

You need to have your Windows 8.1 installation disk in the drive when you start the process. It should take the files it needs and then prompt you for a blank dvd when it's ready. If autoplay tries to bring up the windows install menu when you insert the installation disk, just cancel it and then go make your rescue disk.

Hi,

I ran cmd as adm, started SFC /scannow, and now Windows Resource Protection could not start the repairservice.

Rats, its my sons pc, so I had hoped to make a dvd instead of a usb drive, he could delete...........

I know, it sucks to have options taken away every time MS decides to "improve" something. You can probably get a big enough USB drive to do it for fairly cheap though and then you don't really have to worry about it getting scratched or anything in between uses. As to the other issues. Considering all the things it WON'T let you do, you probably just need to reinstall. You could try going into user accounts and creating a new administrative account and then retry your efforts. It might be a permissions issue.

Did you try the new account creation in user accounts? This is beginning to sound like a bad installation which isn't that uncommon, or perhaps a bad hard drive. Download Seatools for Windows and run the short DST. I'd also download memtest86 and run at least two passes on each RAM module.
