I set up a new pc in January, i'm wondering if I would need a bigger psu (currently 650w) in order to run the following (my current setup) and crossfire(d) r9 280x GPUs.
Corsair rm650 650w gold psu.
16gb of ram
i5 4670k quad core processor.
2 tb HD
128gb ssd
asus dvd/cd optical drive
noctua nh-u14s
2 x msi r9 280x graphics card
the case also has 2 x 120mm fans and one 140mm fan with a few led lights.
z87 pro motherboard

Any help would be great

It's strongly recommended to get a stronger PSU for crossfired r9 280x's. You'd want at least a 750w psu for some decent headroom I believe.

This chart suggests 900w for R9-280X cf:

Your psu is sufficient for a very good single gpu card like the GTX780ti or R9-2990X.

I might suggest you wait a bit and see what the rumored GTX880 and GTX870 look like.
