Hi There,

Hope someone may have a solution or point me in the right direction. I recently took the plunge to build my own PC as an experience to learn more of this growing trend. My build and OS install seemed to have gone fine, but I seem to be getting this intermittent issue where while on the internet and accessing websites, to apparently not be able to connect or reconnect to a link on a website. I would get a "Webpage Unable to Connect" message come up saying there may be some issues with my internet connection.

This I know for a fact I have a live connection, cause my wife would be surfing on her PC and the internet connection icon would be visible in the taskbar. Similar issues when I try to update or connect to download e.g. on Steam games it would say unable to connect. I am using Win8.1 and I have a feeling it could either be some setting that needs to change or program, or maybe my LAN driver (which I thought I updated) or some software component. I am also using Chrome as my browser. I don't really want to go poking around in the WIN registry or some where i am not meant to be messing around to make things worse.

I would appreciate any help available. I have googled this issue and there seem to be many people with similar issues, but there also seem to be dozens of solutions or ways that "could fix" the problem. Pointless having a pimped out PC which can't do the most basic function. Here are my PC specs...

i7 4790k
Asus Z97 Gryphon mATX
Galaxy GTX 780 HoF
Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x 8gb 1866 DDR3
Corsair AX760 platinum
Windows 8.1 OS - Chrome internet browser

No, I am not using Norton Antivirus. I did get AVAST! as my system protection program. So you reckon it is a firewall matter or that my anti virus program is blocking the connections?

Just fixed a pc with that same issue yesterday is why I suggested that answer. Ok let's do some traditional troubleshooting steps:
1 - Go to your Tiles screen
2 - on your Tiles screen, type CMD
3 - you should see a Command Prompt option on the right - click it. A black box should open with a C Prompt
4 - in the black box type IPCONFIG and hit enter
5 - look for your LAN and WAN IP addresses - type them in your response

With this information we're going to see if your ROUTER is issuing your PC an IP Address. We want to see something that starts with 10. or 197.

Thanks!

Hi There, sorry had to get back home to check this.

Ok, so here is what comes up:-
IPv4 Address - 10.0.0.8
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 10.0.0.138

I think the default gateway number if the modem/router address. Thank you

Ok 2 questions - first reboot your ROUTER then try it again, if that doesn't work please let me know the router make and model number. The x.x.x.138 seems odd for a gateway - used to seeing x.x.x.1

Hi There,

I have been investigating this matter further and looking around on different forums. I may have found some kind of solution. Part of it could be due to a firewall conflict, I am not entirely sure. Anyway, I had purchased and installed an Anti Virus & PC protection package from AVAST! recently and the program comes with its own firewall. There were some forum post and solutions saying that the Windows firewall and a third party firewall could be conflicting with one another and to disable the Window's firewall. Also there were some suggestions to flush the DNS by IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS as administrator. These actions seems to have work and I don't get the unable to load webpage error anymore or not that I have come across it as much.

By the way, the modem/router I have was supplied by my service provider Telstra here is Australia. It seems to be a type only model to the telco as there is no branding on it, just the Telstra logo.

Thank you bigwoofer for your time and effort in assisting me in my issue.
