Hello
There are times where I turn my computer on and just before the Windows 7 loading screen there is a grating sound and the boot is delayed by a couple of seconds. This doesn't happen all of the time but when it does, it makes a nasty grating sound. It still works fine though. It's a WD Blue drive.
Thank you.

I would recommend that you ensure you have a current drive image backed up somewhere, then try running either of these diagnostics programs. The Seagate diagnostic will work, even though your drive is a WD. A "nasty grating sound" could be a couple of things, but none of them are good.

Sounds like the drive is starting to fail mechanically and the chances are the noise will get more frequent then finally just break, as Volcanoscout said make a backup of anything you need because it really could fail at any time.
