I live in a dorm whose internet is provided by my university. The internet entering the room is ethernet only. My Netgear N300 Wireless Router WNR2000 displays a green light in the small "i" indicated that an ethernet jack, with access to the internet is plugged to the router. However, the router is unable to connect to the network. I have already reset the router to the factory settings, and have tried restarting the router multiple times. Any thoughts on how to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

The provided connection should most likely connect to your computer rather than a router. Contact the university network administrators for the settings you need to set up your router to connect to their system if they allow it.

Since you have reset your router to the factory default settings it presents a security risk to their system. I imagine that's why it won't connect.

Would they have a way to tell a router apart from a computer? The problem with our network is that you can only ever connect one device to the ethernet jack or it will shut off. So I can't switch devices without a router or without bothering the hell out of the network admin. Incidentally, they don't allow routers, but they can be used on the network nonetheless.

Ask them if you can use a switch rather than a router. You'll have to buy a switch. So if they allow it, ask them what brand/model they would recommend.

I bought a switch before but that absolutely didn't work. It didn't play nicely with the networks DHCP and also you can't use more than one device at a time. I have already contacted the network administrator and I do not believe that the problem is with them.
