First build, problem getting video card to fit

Hello! I'm finally building a computer, specifically for the Oculus Rift that just arrived at my doorstep so I needed a major upgrade. I followed all the instructions as carefully as possible and things were making sense.

Now though when I attempt to gently snap in my video card, a GTX 770, into the PC-e2 slot on my 797 PC Mate motherboard, it doesn't go all the way in. What could I be doing wrong?

It's screwed in, totally flush with the computer case on the back. I think I can push the back of the card in so it clicks, but then it would be at an angle. Is it unecessary to go in that far?

Wow, lots to address there. But the bottom line is that you worked your way through it w/o much input from me. It's always better if one learns from experience rather than lessons.

As to the damaged HD audio plug; If it were me, I'd RMA the case or at least contact Fractal Design and see what they can do for you. I know it means dis-assembling everything, but you'll never be able to use the front audio jacks for a mic or headphones.

Yes, it's best to have the PSU intake air from the outside of the case. It also keeps from setting up a air loop from front fan to PSU and leaving the rest of the case w/o air flow.

If your FP HD audio connector also has an AC '97 connector wired along side of it, it is possible you can use that...

2.0 I believe. Finally found a working camera, hopefully these two shots are clear enough to see what I've done, sorry for the size...

I can still see a bit of gold all along the card's plug, I assume it should be pushed in farther. Just not sure how it's possible.

You mean does that tab click in? No it doesn't, although maybe I misunderstand. There's a bunch of things I haven't hooked up yet so can't try it out. I'm forced to go step by step as this is all very new to me.

It all might be for not though... I just noticed the "HD AUDIO" plug that comes with my Fractal case looks melted, part of it. Unusable. Since this has not been anywhere near heat, it must have been damaged on arrival. This sucks! I assume I need this to have any sort of audio? Maybe I can just get a new one spliced in at a Radioshack?

Or maybe it's smashed, hard to tell exactly but it's definitely damaged...

This case came very highly recommended, and I've been babying it so it's quite disappointing to get something defecting. Unless I can go without HD Audio. It's a XL R2 btw.

...now I feel a bit silly, for sure. I just pressed on the back of the case, bringing the motherboard closer, and it clicked in. The front edge still looks slightly less snug than the rest but I think I finally figured it out. Sorry!

Not sure if I should stay on the same thread, however this might also be something simple and I don't want to clutter up your board.

I have no power. I've hooked everything up I can, by the book, and I've read over the various instructions many times and still my Rosewill Hive power source shows no sign of life. I've checked all the connections, I've removed peripherals, but nothing.

The one mistake I did see, and I wonder if it might have done some damage (although nothing was apparent) is that the Remote Switch and the Power LED plugs had positive and negative reversed. Correcting that doesn't make a difference, but maybe that had other consequences?

I flipped the power supply around, the writing on the end is upside down now but someone said it's supposed to vent from the bottom... I don't think that made a difference, but when I turned on the back power and the front switch I now get the fans going. No signal from the processor yet though to the monitor.

Fixed! Been working on this computer for nearly 20 hours now, learned a hell of a lot about how these things work and found a lot of my own mistakes. The final one was that I had plugged the monitor into the mobo's output, instead of the GFX's. Also it was just so much quieter than the old machine I was using that I just didn't feel like it was actually working properly.

Anyway I'm shocked at how fast computers can run if you put the time into building one yourself, this feels state of the art. Even though it's last year's state of the art.

Thanks for letting me post my mistakes on here!

Update: I just checked your MB manual. It doesn't appear yours offers that option.
