Hi,

I'm deciding between these 2 cards

1. MSI R9-280
2. MSI GTX 760

Which of these will be better? Especially in terms of

1.Playing games in 1080p
2. Noise and Heat generation

More about : deciding msi gtx 760 msi 280

280 is faster than the 760 at stock and when both overclocked, the 760 comes much closer but just can't quite catch it.

The 280 uses about 45 more watts under load and is a bit noisier ..... the MSI 760 comes in about 27 dbA which is incredibly quiet, unfortunately they haven't tested the 280 but teh b280x shouldn't be significantly different and the MSI came in at 34 dbA .... 37 wud be "twice as loud"

it's pretty hard to find 280 reviews on sites of the usual "go to" suspects.

The cards have very similar performance, it depends on which game you are playing but they are usually within a few frames of each other. The 760 has a lower TDP but is also slightly more expensive. The 280 comes with 3 gb vram, which while not required at 1080p, helps if you go to higher resolutions. The MSI twin frozr is one of the quietest coolers you can get, so both are pretty quiet.

So the amount of ram only affects the size of resolution? will it also increase frame rates?

At 1080p the extra vram is unused but higher res needs more vram so you will get better quality and frames.
