I am looking into a 290 for 120hz gaming at 1080p, but I would like a quiet card, or maybe some advice.

Should I wait for next batch of video cards to come out? Are there any new ones coming out soon / Q4 ?

Which brand of 290 has the quietest (and still effective) cooling solution? The lower the noise the better. I'm not worried about the heat, my case, SilverStone FT03S stays cooler than any other case I've used, and with stock fans too.

I am not interested in nVidia unless they have a $400 card that can outperform the R9 290.

I am aware of the noise comparison article, but I would like more opinions, possibly from owners of various 290s.

I have two 290x's, an Asus and a Sapphire. From what I've read and from what I've experienced personally, go with the Sapphire. Their cooling isn't as effective but they're pretty silent.

Quick bump and I have another thought. It seems the GTX 780 (non ti) runs exceptionally quiet and cool compared to the R9's. I'm thinking that it might be the better choice, the performance should be pretty identical. The cooler temps would allow me to overclock too, closing the delta even further.

Like I said, the quieter the better. Any thoughts on this?
