I'm not sure about which one to get. The salesman told me that there was no STRONG differences or performance advantages of 270 on 260X. In price, hell it's a difference, like 75USD. And I know R9 series surpasses R7. But what do you think guys? Any help would be very appreciated.

R7 260x is rebranded version of HD 7790 code name Bonaire XTX.
R9 270 is rebranded version of HD 7870 code name Tahiti LE.

R7 260X has 896 Stream Processors, 56 TAU’s and 16 ROP’s just like HD 7790. It has core clock upto 1.1 GHz, 1.97 TFlops compute performance, 2GB DDR/128-bit memory configuration with 6.5 GBPS memory speed, 115W TDP with API Support of DX 11.2, Mantle, OpenGL 4.3. Memory bandwidth is 104 GB/s

R9 270 has Stream Processors 1280, Clock Frequency up-to 925 MHz, 2.37 TFLOPS compute performance, 2GB DDR-256 bit memory configuration at 5.6 Gbps speed, TDP of 150W, API support of DX11.2 / OpenGl 4.3 / Mantle. Memory bandwidth is 179 GB/s

Except for that...

I have the 270 and i would say the 260x is like a 750ti thats what i read when i was looking which one to buy. I went for the 270 because the fps difference is quite significant. Like 10 to 15 fps in some games. I mostly play bf3 and 4 so i needed something powerful however if you dont play any gpu intensive games go for the 260x if you want performance 270 is awesome. Differences in specs are higher bit interface much more stream proccesors and other in-depth specs.

Except for that memory bandwidth and stream processors, R7 260X offers better performance.

No,the r9 270 is not code named tahiti LE. The tahiti LE is a cut down version of the hd 7950.

not to offend you, just to make things clear.

None taken but it seems like you did not read it the way I wanted it to be read. So again my fault. Tahiti Le here refers to HD 7870 (XT) based cards not R9 270. :)

How the hexx does a random idiot claim a R7 260X/7790 is better than a R9 270/7870 and then get best answer? LOL People today really are getting dumber each day! Yes the post is a few months old! (but c'mon people! catch this crap!) We are supposed to give correct info to potential buyers! (not idiotic opinions!) And someone may read this and believe it because it is best answer! Tom's Hardware does not need a worse rep than it already has!

Maybe next time react a bit more civil? I gather you're not trying to win a popularity contest, but you can bring things in a different manner.

I wouldn't say that EasyLover is a random idiot, kinda harsh really,he got it wrong here, but we all sometimes get it wrong. The one who picked best answer only does it to close the thread and he also can make mistakes doing what he does within a certain time per day/week.

Still have a good day,

Vic.

Wow. Thanks to Brian, I checked this thread to find out that my answer was selected as solution. Anyhow, facts are correct but conclusion may not be. Mistakes can happen and on should be pro enough to correct them.

Anyone one who is reading it may note plz that R9 270 is better option than R7 260x but for a budget user and where the 270 may not be available, 260x is still a good performer.

@Brian: You are very rude and making mockery here. You should have shown a professionalism here by giving facts and putting your recommendation so that anyone who may read this afterwards may know it.
