As the title says, I have made a terribly stupid mistake. I have 2 X ASUS GTX 580 DCII that I have been running in SLI. My monitor, has two inputs, the normal screen plug and then there's a DVI port. Up until last night I have always ran it with a DVI adapter to fit normal screens from the graphics card to the screen but last night I figured, I have another adapter, surely if I simply add the second adapter to the other side, it will be just as good as digital, so whilst I was playing ANNO I plugged out the cable from the screen side, added the second adapter and plugged it back in. I had some difficulty plugging it in as I think the adapter was too broad and don't know if it could have possibly shorted out two pins, however if you look at the dvi pin, it doesn't seem like it can be possible. Anyways, after not being able to get the plug in, I noticed a beep from the mobo to indicate the pc has restarted... I remove the adapter and plug the screen back the way it always was, no display! Plugged it into the second port of the first GTX, still nothing... Thought I'd restart the PC, still nothing. I then plugged the screen into the second GTX, there we go, display! but when I check the Nvidia Control panel, SLI is no longer active and it's not picking up the first. Please excuse the long story. I then Remove the second card to let the pc boot up with the first card, 8 consecutive beeps from the mobo. Cross referenced the beeps and it indicates (Output not detected (VGA)) On a side note I do not have onboard Graphics. I double checked my power connections and they were perfect! Upon switching the computer on, the fans spin and I'm getting green lights on the card to state that there is power. I then removed the first card to fit the second in it's place, and voila, display!

Can someone please help with my GTX as I can no longer run SLI. Is this easily fixable, what could have possibly failed?

Kind Regards
Chris

I have a friend that specializes in multi layer boards and has access to some high tech equipment to measure and test sophisticated boards. I was thinking of giving this to him to check and see if he can find the faulty component and/or replace. Do you know which component would fail in such conditions?

I removed the cooler and inspected the card closely for visual damages. Couldn't see anything but then again, to an untrained eye, everything would seem perfect.

I do hope so! These cards really perform great! I did inspect the caps and they usually show signs of failure but didn't see any of that. I'll give it to him tonight and he'll have a look in the lab on Monday. I also contact ASUS and awaiting their reply. They can either help or say, nope sorry...
