Desktop freezing at random times

OK so I have what I consider a minor problem but it is starting to get annoying. I built my desktop at the beginning of 2013 and since then it sporadically freezes. It doesn't blue screen and it doesn't cut off, it just freezes with whatevers on the screen. If sound is playing at the time it will continuously play the last tone that it made until I turn it off. I have tried troubleshooting before but the inconsistency of the problem makes it very difficult. It might freeze one time randomly while I'm watching a movie, then I'll reboot it and it might freeze again right away at login, then I reboot again and it might not freeze for days or weeks. I think about 2 weeks is the longest I've gone between freezes. It also happens during random activities: it might do it while I'm watching a video, surfing the web, or while it's a screen saver. I don't think it has ever done it while I was playing a game on it, I could be wrong though. I have tried stress testing it, I've run chkdsk, I've tested the memory, I can't figure it out. Here are my specs, any help would be appreciated:

ASRock X79 Extreme6 LGA 2011 Motherboard\
Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E Quad-Core 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR3 1866 RAM (it's 2x8GB sticks, so only using dual channel)
Radeon HD 7850 2GB GPU
Corsair Hydro H60
KINGWIN Lazer LZ-1000 1000W Modular 80 PLUS BRONZE PSU
Cherryville 120GB SATA III SSD for the OS (windows 7)
2TB WD Black HDD for storage

All in a full size NZXT Phantom case with 4 fans. It stays cool all the time, in the 35-40C range. I know my PSU is way more than I need, I plan to add more later. Anyway I'm asking now because I just ordered two more 8 GB sticks of RAM to take advantage of the quad channel capabilities and a couple more fans for my case and now seems like as good a time as any to see if I can get it resolved while I'm in there installing stuff. I also check the event logs for when the freezes happen to see if there may be a software trigger but there's never anything noteworthy there. Any intelligent suggestions would be welcome! Thanks!

Given the random nature of the problem though I don't think that it could be either of those, it's not like I move my computer around. If the case was interfering then it would always be interfering, not just at random intervals. Same thing for messed up connection pins.
