4790k by miles. Its more expensive for a reason.

Performance is simply better and more consistent.

Here you are comparing an intel to an amd. Let us go though the quick of dirty of it.

Intel has much better performance per core
Amd has more cores.

it depends on which games you are playing as well as what you are doing while gaming.

For a majority of people the intel 4790k would be the way to go as most games don't go beyond 4 cores. if a game were to use 4 cores than having the amd cpu means 4 of your cores are doing nothing(as well as being physically weaker than the intel).

however if the game uses more than 4 cores than amd would be more compelling . or we could say that you plan on streaming while playing a game that needs more than 4 cores . i would suggest amd for this as well. plus the amd processors are cheaper.

it really just depends on WHAT you are doing with your computer are you playing just games? are you going to be video editing, encoding /streaming while playing games?

even if you were doing all of that the intel i7 would still perform admirably well the amd cpus would still probably perform less but it is in this multitasking where amd does decently well. if don't use your computer for alot than you will never see amd cpus shine.

tl dr if you are going to be a doing a bunch of junk while gaming go amd(mostly because it is cheaper even if it does not perform as well as the intel.) otherwise just go with the intel. (and probably go for an i5 who needs hyperthreading anyway?)

You can check comparison here for the main differences:
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4790-vs-AMD-FX-95...

FX 9590 is worse because for gaming it is more importand single core performance as most of the games don't use more than 4 cores. It has also huge TDP so it will heat up and burn your electricity.

Here is advice from other forums:

Here you can check some game benchmarks what you can get:

The i7 is likely to win in almost every situation. If a program is very well threaded then the AMD may be able to keep up, but in 95% of cases the i7 will perform better. Regarding your question, however, in all games the i7 will perform better - just that in ~5% of them the AMD might keep up. The main argument that often goes on is comparing AMD's best offerings to Intel i5 - in the knowledge that the i7 are in a class of their own right now.

Budget is not really a valid argument either, given that you'll need to purchase an aftermarker cooler for the AMD chip (These two chips specifically do not come with a stock option, unless that situation has changed recently?).

Not just in almost any. Following benchmark charts the only thing where AMD can almost hold up is integer performance. In most scenarios the I7 will beat the fx by up to 100% (double score).

No FX CPU will perform better than a 4790k at anything. That includes streaming.

Thanks for explaining and clearing it up, looks like the i7 will work best for me.

Thanks to everyone else for adding other information as well, I really appreciate it.
