Should wait for the 5th generation i5?

hello i want to upgrade to an i5 , currently having an 8350
but should i wait for the 5th generation cpus?

If you can be bothered waiting than wait, but the performance isn't expected to be much if any better. Mostly just the refresh processors with a smaller lithography.

You mean broadwell? yes, you should if you can afford to wait, cause they might offer significant improvements over the current haswell's

There is always a good reason to wait for the next upgrade. That way lies madness (but it's not much of a drain on the bank account).

They are designed for the 97 series motherboards (or the motherboards were designed for them i guess), so no, same socket.

So back here after some months. Is it still worth waiting for those? And are they gonna be expensive? Or cost like a regular i5 ?

They have pushed Broadwell back a few times because of whatever issues with the new 14nm process and they still aren't out yet on desktops but I imagine the pricing will be competitive with current generation or at the least adhere to intel's usual pricing model for new core series cpu's. Performance probably won't be outstanding as compared to current generation maybe like a 10% increase and I think that's being nice. lol I Can't say if it's worth the wait, I have a 9 series board myself I kind of hope it's worth the upgrade when they get here but who knows. If nothing else the energy efficiency Broadwell promises should be interesting.

I really don't know but I would like to see them released soon. I'm rocking a pentium so i'm ready to step up to something better whenever I just hate to get Haswell right now and Broadwell come out like a week later or something. I'm going to wait a month or so and if they don't come out I'm getting a Haswell core I5 and that'll be the end of it. lol

Probably not. Broadwell is just a die shrink of Haswell, so you'll see maybe a 5% performance boost. And as production of Haswell will decline, the under-supply will cause a short term price bump on the older chips.
