Which cooler is the best from the list?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some feedback on a selection of fans I am looking to chose with my custom build. I will be running an intel i7 4790k at turbo boost 4.4ghz along side an Msi R9 290x.

http://imgur.com/sx86N5p - the image wouldn't load for some reason.

I am leaning slightly toward the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo as I can upgrade the stock fans if needed.

Thanks for reading guys!

Both will cool well but the evo is a giant piece of equip. hanging on the side of your mobo. If you like that look, great, I'm more of a stream-line guy. I'd go for the H100. As for the gpu, Nvidia all the way.

So the evo will be fine for the turbo boost on the 4790k?

Also on an added note, I am also stuck between the Zodac gtx 780 3gb and the Msi R9 290x both are very good cards and around the same price, what do you suggest?

I do love Nvidia, I just feel the R9 is a bit more future proof, and I don't really trust the Zodac version which is the only version available where as the R9 is a twin frozr Msi edition.

Yeah, go r9 290x then :) you'll have warranty anyway so if anything breaks you won't need to worry

I wouldnt compare H series with a 212 EVO. Of course they outperform evo easy, but they are also noisier and have risk of leaking.
I think evo can handle that CPU but its not really a very good air cooler, it will also depends on your room temperature. If you are going to get EVO, put a better thermal paste like MX-4 and buy a better fan or 2 to do push/pull.

If you're not overclocking there's really not even a need for something as large as the EVO. I would advise using a 90mm tower with 3 heatpipes. Many brands make something in this size class and these types of coolers are more than adequate to keep a stock clocked i7 running in the green, and can even do so pretty quietly.
Ideas:
AR02, TRUE Spirit 90M, CNPS5X Performa, Hyper TX3, NH-U9B SE2, Freezer i11

I'd probably just go with the i11 as I think it offers the most bang-for-buck for stock clocked rigs (in terms of balancing cooling performance with noise, durability, price, etc).

----------

If it helps ease your mind any, I run an A10-6800K @ 4.7ghz with the iGPU overclocked to 1200mhz (from 844mhz), on a CNPS5X. The 90mm class of heatpipe coolers are capable of dissipating well over 100W thermals while keeping CPU temps in check.

The Evo is a great air cooler (obviously not like a noctua nh-D15 or anything, but it is $30) and is competitive up to the H80i when it comes to all in one coolers. The thermal paste that comes with it is fine but yes there are other better pastes. The Hyper 212 evo also doesn't quite benefit from push pull.

H110>H100i>H100>H80>H60>IntelStock

Good air coolers perform between H80 and H100i, but none as good as H110

In high-end air vs AIO water cooler, go for the best looking/what you like better. They are similar and both adequate. For instance, the Noctua NH‑D14 air cooler performs as well as the H100, but it's HUGE!

H100i's the prettiest of the bunch

The H80i is better, but it won't benefit him much at 4.4GHz.
Also, everything is quiet compared to the Corsair SP120L fans. I can't even stand to have one running in my case.

All said and done, I'd recommend something that can handle any CPU and has software control. You'll be able to reuse it on future builds and be sure that there is enough thermal dissipation. The H100i fits that description. You should also check out the Switech's new H220-X. It's like an H100i on steroids because it's an open loop cooler, meaning that you can take it apart and add tubes and stuff to it as much as you want.

Whatever you get, you should throw some Noctua fans on it. They are quite and powerful. The end result will be something you'll be able to keep for several builds.

Have you tried running it at full fan speed?

IIRC they come with 2700RPM fans. Obviously, nearly any PWM HSF can run quietly when operating below peak dissipation performance (unless the pump is noisy). That's a different issue.

The thing is that H80i at low fan speed performs better than EVO at fastest speed.
But yess you are totally right, corsair should put quieter fans in their H series, tho they have very good performance. You can always get other fans to replace those.
