How to access data on a single RAID1 drive previously in a NAS box.

Hi everyone, I hope I can profit from everybody's experience as I lack the knowledge.

Here is my story. I have a Synology NAS drive with two 2gb nas drives in it. I recently moved it on the desk and had it bang lightly on the wall (damnit /?%*?) . Now the NAS doesn't work. Hard drive 2 seems to be dead or NOT INITIALIZED. I put drive 1 in another computer (not in the nas box but on the motherboard) and as expected it is not recognized as a drive letter. It is there in the BIOS and in Disk Management but how do I access the data on it so I can backup the data? The only option I seem to have in Disk Management is "convert to dynamic volume" and I don't know if this is the way to go.

Your help is greatly appreciated!
Pierre

Well first of all, if 1 drive failed doue to shock damage the other drive is almost always going to have physical damage as well, so it's likely to die during the copy process.

You need to run Seatools or something similar to make sure the second drive is stable first.

After that if it's stable you can run just about any basic data recovery software to transfer the data.
If it's unstable, we'll need to know the results of testing before we can give you any advice further.
