From here http://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-sx-desktop/ I saw the picture, the DVD/CD does block the space so you need to remove the drive first, then you can install the RAM, either check the manual or open the case or maybe the front panel, after that you should see one small clip (or two) around the dvd/cd drive, which is for releasing the dvd/cd drive.
