Hey,
I'm building a new PC and I'm pretty unsure of what order I'm supposed to build it :|
I have a custom PC at the moment but I chose the parts for it and got my friend to build it (Shameless,I know
)
I was wondering if anyone would help me through the process
Here's the the parts I'm getting:
Motherboard: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00K9R1NMS/ref=pe_385721_379... (Board I'm using currently is an AMD board)
CPU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KPRWAX8/ref=ox_sc_a... (CPU I'm using right now is an AMD FX-4100)
GPU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K699CRW/ref=ox_sc_a... (GPU I'm using right now is an AMD Radeon 7800 series)
Ram: 16gb ddr3 ( I'm 85% sure it's ddr3) (From my old PC)
Hardrive: 1TB HDD / 120gb samsung 840 EVO SSD (The 1tb HDD is the one I'm using now and I'm buying the SSD for win 8.1 and to record to only)
OS: windows 7 (Win 8.1 on the SSD)
PSU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045L4BJ6/ref=gno_car...
Case: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007C008L2/ref=gno_c...
I'm going to be using the same HDD and ram from the PC I'm using right now.
+ Keep in mind that I want to keep my files/folders from the PC I'm using now (Because I'll need to re-install windows 7 unfortunately because I'm going from an AMD board to an Intel) I understand I'll need to re-install programs tho.
So...could someone give me an in-depth walkthrough of the process, please?
(I'd look up a YouTube video but I'd prefer a more personal walkthrough catering to my specific build)
+ Do I need an anti-static wristband or is it not needed if I build on my wooden floor with my sleeves rolled up?
Thanks in advance!

Hi - That's a nice build - you can go with it like it is. Double check your RAM, if it's ddr3, 16g is plenty.
You don't need an anti static wrist band, just be cautious of static. If there's anything metallic nearby
that's grounded, touch it with the screwdriver (or whatever tool is in your hand) occasionally.
Also: Consider a CPU cooler, you don't need a liquid cooler, a good aftermarket one like Noctua,
Phanteks, or Coolermaster will do nicely.

As for the order, I would mount the RAM, CPU & CPU cooler on the motherboard before I install the
mobo to the PC case. You could also mount the PSU before you did that. Be careful to use all
the mobo standoffs (usually 9, but not always) when attaching the mobo.
If installing Win 8.1 on the SSD, do so before attaching the other hdd, Win likes to spread things,
and will do that if there's another drive present when you install it. So, wait till after Win & then attach
2nd HDD.
MOBO's aren't std in the where they place (or how they label) headers, etc. You have to refer to your
mobo manual in connecting drives, the leads from the case front, etc. Most modern mobo's are pretty good
at marking them on the mobo clearly.
I'd also recommend skimming thru this:

If you have the mobo manual for current AMD board it will tell you if it's ddr3, or google the mobo
model # and then look at specs. I agree it is most likely ddr3, just be safe rather than sorry.
If you don't have the manual or model # try one of the sticks in the new mobo RAM slot, if it's
ddr3 it will click in correctly, ddr2 won't.

There should be no need to reinstall Win 7. After all is assembled and cables connected, install
Win 8.1 on the SSD. Then after that is done and you're operating system is up & running so to speak,
connect your HDD. I would then format the HDD to get rid of Win 7. If there's anything on the HDD you need
be sure to back it up before formatting, as formatting will wipe the drive clean.
I'm assuming you want Win 8.1 as your operating system and not Win 7.

My 1TB HDD is my main boot drive and I'll have windows 7 on that. I'm putting Windows 8.1 on the SSD and that'llbe used for recording with fraps (recording software) without any fps drops.
So if I was to plug in the 1TB HDD first because it's my main, what would I have to do? I don't want it to brick because my mobo and CPU is different than the last time I used it.
