So the local store only has 2 brands of this card. They have the XFX and Asus. I heard XFX cards are bad by a lot of people. Personally I have had 0 problems with XFX and my last 3 AMD cards have been XFX with no problems. I heard Saphire is the best and I am able to get one of them if I choose to order online. I just got one question I never really understood about the Asus card. There is a bios switch on that Asus card. There is a silent mode and a performance mode. If I bought the Asus card for example which I may end up getting. Do I have to turn the switch to performance mode before plugging the card in? I will use driver display uninstaller in safe mode to remove my current AMD drivers for my HD 6850 and then shutdown my PC before plugging my R9 290x card in. I just don't know if I need to switch the bios switch to performance mode before I plug the card in like as soon as I take it out of the box or leave it on quiet mode or what is the point of quiet mode when performance mode sounds better? I just don't understand why Asus is the only card that has this option. It sort of stands out.

Thank you so much for reading. I just would love to know what that bios switch feature on the card does and would love more information about it before purchasing it. Thank you!

don't know nothing about that silly switch thing [sounds like a gimmick thing] but as far as this --- I will use driver display uninstaller in safe mode to remove my current AMD drivers for my HD 6850 and then shutdown my PC before plugging my R9 290x card in-- its the better way uninstall the driver with your old card in and insure it goes back to the windows default standard vga driver --shut down -- swap cards --reboot and reinstall the driver for your new card

I've recently investigate all r9 290 and 290x making and If i were you, I'd get that Sapphire Tri-X. That cooler seems to me the most efficient out there, and cooling is, from what I've heard, a big issue with r9 series especially if you are going to OC.

Thank you williamcummins for your reply. I am using a coolermaster cosmos 2 full tower case. I also bought a few extra fans. My temperatures are very low, so I am thinking I will get no overheat problems with the one card. This case I got is MASSIVE in terms of size/space.

I know the Saphire one is the best. I just would have to order one online. The local store has 3 year return to base warranty with both cards. XFX cards get a lifetime warranty, but after 3 years they will probably make you send it away. My local store will swap the cards immediately if they have it in stock if there is a problem. Great warranty replacement, but they have no Saphries arghh. I may just make the effort and get a saphire one. Seriously my case has such good air flow I doubt heating will be an issue.

ok just asking seeing some folks want these big cards on some low end or prebuilt system ... so you look good for the card

the cards come down to personal choice, they all got there good and bad points .. you me and him could all buy the exact same card and none of them will run the same mine may just run way hotter then yours and his yours may show some shudder his may not get as good of frame rates as ours

you just get the one you fell would work best for you and hope its not a lemon

luck of the draw and a roll of the dice with any brand you choose [opinion]

like them guys I'm not too hip on any asus products, but that's just me

just look things up on the cards you like and decide on one and hope for the best

I bought a nice sapphire card that kinda to me fell short so I fooled with it for around 4-6 months and got a powercolor card to use as a back up when it came in I took out the sapphire to test the powercolor card and I have yet to remove it now the sapphire is the back up and the powercolor card was $100 cheaper and works better then expected

Well I will try for a saphire one. If not I will get an Asus. My case is huge. Seriously you can not move my case. It is that heavy it requires 2 people. I am even a weight lifter and I wouldn't carry it by myself. For safety I would prefer using 2 people to carry it lol.

there all the same reference cards -- amd designed them and they copy it

the coolers for the cards are custom by the manufacture or can be just a reference cooler

the parts used can range from top end all Japanese down to 2ed or 3ed tier Taiwan or as bad as china

the cards memory could be from who ever some claim certain memory is better then others on a vid card

this card I use now has elpida and does a fine job my last card had hynix and had shutter

Thank you junkeymonkey. I will try get a Saphire. If I can't I will get an Asus. I got excellent cooling so any card shouldn't matter. And no matter what card I get. I am only gaming at 1080p 120hz and I should be able to max any game easily.
