We were done upgrading some parts of our computer. We needed to get a higher power supply for the Vapor-X R9 270x, so we bought Huntkey 700w, our old psu was 600w, a very cheap one.

So here's the case, (everything was fine, about 2-3 times I booted my PC with the new PSU) Ive only turned on the UPS then suddenly the cable that connects to the PSU and UPS exploded! I heard a snap sound then eventually there's white smoke--it smelled nasty from the burning I guess? I panicked so hurriedly turn off the UPS!

I need some help to know what really caused the problem.

Before we got the new PSU, maybe a week, everything was ok (except for the intense vibrations from my pc). But when the new PSU was installed, my old cable got fried. Is it just my cable given up?

Got a new cable now. I'm afraid it might happen again.

Specs: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3450 CPU @3.10GHz
AMD Radeon Sapphire Vapor-X R9 270X 2GB Over-Clock Edition
8.00 GB of Ram
ASUS P8 H61-M LX3 Plus
AOC E22SWDN LED
Cougar M-ATX Spike Gaming Chassis + 1 Cougar CF-V12H Vortex
Razer DeathAdder Black Edition
Huntkey HK700-52PP 700W

And oh the UPS is APC 500va

Sounds like either the UPS was bad or the PSU was set to the wrong voltage. Usually there are settings for 110/220 that are switchable on the back of the unit. Could have been the same with the UPS. Not to mention that's a piece of junk PSU you got, very much on the low end of the totem pole when it comes to quality unless you got the Jumper series PSU from them. All other Huntkey PSU's are on the replace immediately list located here:
