i am building a pc and i want to get a gtx 770, it will be my first build and i dont know much about what graphics card does what harder, better, faster or stronger. also i will be using part PCPartPicker to find the cheapest price and not amazon as you dont get the free borderlands from there. i have looked at the asus and the msi as they fit the colour scheme i am going for but that is not important, i physically cant tell the difference in how they perform, and i would like to get good performance and not find out that i got the worst one for more money than i needed to pay.

here is my build if it helps in any way:

Really, the all the GTX 770s are going to give you the same FPS. The brand in stuff is all about warranties, cooling, and build quality. Sometimes, the manufacture/brand will already OC the card some, and that will help with fps, some. If you are wanting better performance, you'd need to get either a 780, or a R9-290 AMD card.

EVGA is said to be the best brand for nVidia graphics cards. So I'd go with them. MSI, Asus, and maybe, just maybe Gigabyte come in second. The others aren't really good brands (Zotac, PNY, ect.)

This is probably the best model of that card. This card is sure to give you the performance, and quality that you'd look for.

If you want something cheaper, here is a Asus card (I have the same cooler on my graphics card, and it words great, and the temp always stays under 50C.)

The MSI one would do fine too. Might actually get a little more FPS than the Asus card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I noticed a few issues with the build though.

1st: See, the CPU is Intel's new "Haswell Refresh" and the Z87 mobo is for just "Haswell" CPUs. The BIOS on the motherboard is going to need a BIOS update/flash before working with the CPU. Some motherboard don't even allow this. Now any H97/Z97 mobos will work fine with the CPU.

2nd: The PSU, is a little overkill. You could run the system fine on a 600W 80+ PSU (Make sure it has over 38A on the 12v rails though). EVGA makes great graphics cards, but I'm not sure about their PSUs. I have their small 500w PSU, and its been running fine for 8 months with no issues. So I think they are good.

3rd: Not much of an issue, but G.skill isn't the best brand for RAM (my opinion). Cosair, Crucial, and Kingston are the best in my opinion.

Don't know what you mean (or is it something from before the edit?),but the man has a point regarding the bios. The bios on that motherboard that supports the 4690K is from the 5th of june 1014 so make sure the motherboard comes with that or the newer one.It probably does come with it,but just talk to the vendor it will.

what ssd would you recommend? i would prefer a cheaper one as this build has become more expensive than i initially set out for it to be, but it might become something i do over time

Well the best SSD right now for its price are Samsung EVO or Crucial M500 or Intel 520 120GB ones:

Storage: Intel 520 Series Cherryville 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.99 @ Amazon)
OR
Storage: Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($65.98 @ Newegg)
OR
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($87.82 @ Amazon)

All are equally good. Also, a cheaper and equally truted SSD is from Knigston, 120GB:

Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($54.99 @ Amazon)

I can recommend the Kingston as they're not bad at all and your build is on its budget limits. I advice you to get nothing less than 120GB as you'll feel congested in keeping the OS and main programs/ games on a 64GB one.
