LOL I laughed when I read that, I wouldn't class a faster loading time as a performance improvement, but I suppose if waiting 1 second for something to load is gonna bust your balls then you could get a hard drive which will load it in 3 quarters of a second as an improvement.

IMHO I wouldn't worry to much about the hard drive if you want a bigger improvement keep the money that you would spend on the hard drive and put it towards your next video card or buy a bit of RAM.

1. By that argument, why would anyone every buy an SSD ?

2. We ain't talking 1 second versus 3/4 of a second ...we talking more like 10 versus 16 seconds .

So your argument is that one's purchasing decisions should be based upon paying more for having the drive closest to the bottom of the barrel (63rd place out of 65 HDs) in performance AND with the highest failure rate ?

1 TB WD Blue = $60 ... 63rd place ... highest failure rate

1 TB Seagate = $55 ....8th place in performance .....half the failure rate

Failure rate - http://www.behardware.com/articles/843-6/components-returns-rates-5.html

No one is saying the impact is huge but when choosing one hard drive for another why intentionally pick the slower one, specially when paying more money to get it

If you want faster loading times get a better hard drive even an SSD many couldn't agree more with you, IMHO with an SSD they don't hold enough storage for the price I will hold off a long time till they settle to a decent price with a decent capacity.

You seem to be getting lost in your posts. From a gaming point of view if you want to improve performance buy a better Vid, CPU or RAM etc with focus being on Vid Card unless you have old CPU or little RAM, I have a 1tb Seagate SATA drive and I can honestly say I have never noticed 16 second loading times between Map or areas in a game so if I were you I would back up my data ASAP coz if yours has those loading times you may have a HDD ready to break.

When I load a game up it can take over 16 seconds most times but nothing much I can do there as the Game creators need to get their sponsors in.

No argument there.... If you have a set budget, put together a build and have $100 left to spend, best place to spend it is on an GFX upgrade..... once you gave gotten to the top, (780 or 780 Ti), then the next best place to spend it is on a CPU upgrade ..... once you are at the top, then and only then would I consider putting in a SSD.

However, the subject under discussion here is "Should I replace my old, slow drive that's no longer keeping pace with the Seagate or something else ?" With a $60 WD Blue or a $55 Seagate as options, you can see by the charts that

1. Why spend more to get less ?

2. Why take the one with lower performance ?

3. Why take the one with lower reliability ?

The Seagate is 6.55 MB/s, the WD is 4.01 MB/s in gaming

So if you are loading a region of say 64 MB, you have the choice of waiting 9.77 seconds or waiting 15.96 seconds
