Ok so i am still building my gaming rig. i am now stuck on the GPU and what to use. witht he current prices and free games it looks like AMD is my selection. I will only be gaming on 1 display at 1080p the other display is for other stuff. I wont be playing BF4 but want to play any other game and new games coming this year and next without any issues. I am stuck between the HIS Radeon R9 280 3GB IceQ OC or the MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB TWIN FROZR the less money i spend the faster i can get to gaming. I dont want to pay for over kill as i have read that anymore that anymore than 2gb of memory on the card is wasted on a single display. I know that for the most part buying the more expensive card is better but is it really needed. also im using the AMD FX-8320 and 8gb gskills 1600 ram. using MSI 970 gaming MOBO. any tips for the purchase is greatly appreciated as i am working a ton to finish this build

I play at 1080p currently and there are LOTS of games I play that use more than 2GB of VRAM. It obviously depends on the settings that you plan to play at, such as Texture Quality and AA and how well optimised the game is (I'm looking at you Watch_Dogs, using 5GB of VRAM!). Getting the more expensive, more powerful card will mean you won't have to upgrade as soon so I always recommend paying a little extra to get a better card.
