Hello. I am using AMD Overdrive to monitor my CPU( AMD Athlon x4 760K).When its just idling it says around 70C in the Thermal Margin so I am assuming its around 40C? So my question is what does the thermal margin subtract you actual temperature from to get that thermal margin? IS it 90C? Thanks

P.S. CPU is liquid cooled

More about : which thermal margin subtracts actual temperature

Go into the bios and check the idling temperature.

Yes it idles around 30C so does that mean the thermal margin is subtracting from 100C?

No that means it is running at 30 degrees. The only time it is off, is when software says it is 7 degrees or something ridiculously low.

Sorry maybe I didn't word it correctly. My issue is that when I am monitoring my CPU temperature in AMD Overdrive in Windows it only gives thermal margin. So what I would like to know is what value does it have set as the not safe point 90, 100? For example my thermal margin is around 70C so I was wondering if I should subtract that from 100 or 90 to get the acutal temperature. Looking at it now i see it most likely is 100C but would just like to confirm.

Your cpu would be dead if it was cknstablt yidling at 100 degrees or your system would shut off to protect itself from overheating. I am not familiar with overdrive as it's main purpose is overclocking and software overclocks are unstable and run ridiculously hot.

But if you run HW monitor, and check to see what the temps are under load, those are your exact temeratures

tthermal margin is not accurate when idiling it is accurate when stressing cpu , if max temp for cpu is 75c then a temp of 40c will give therm margin of 35c
