So currently I have a Dell Precision M6500 with an I5-520m/Firepro M7820/ 5gb and i was looking at my upgrade options new whole laptop or desktop 4+ core cpu. So I have what about 16 hours to render more complex 3d models that are 1.7gb which holds me back just for one pic in 8k res.And other smaller files which are 400mb takes about 2hrs.So I need a good rendering cpu to scale them down to minutes and be able to do other stuff on my computer. But my main problem upgrading to new modern high end laptop is price and only 1080p 17inch screens which I have 1200p screen and that won't be an upgade. And upgrading my cpu to an i7 is price to proformance is not worth it plus a lower battery life. And final option is desktop which I prefer a matx size between i5-5000 series/i7- 5000 series/ and xeon I won't be getting this now, maybe next year BTW I do some gaming (gta iv enb seies with lots of mods)(gta v and farcry3)

And you wonder why it's slow? For 3d rendering in minutes, you want to get like a titan black. And a 6 core intel cpu. AMD is far too weak, their 8 core 9590 on 5ghz performs worse than an I7 on 2.8ghz (4 core, 8 threads). You should be facing something like the 5960x (8 core, 16 threads) for serious non workstation rendering. Or, a bit cheaper on budget the 5930k. Or, if the overall cost is still too high, a 4960x will do great too. But really, getting at least one or two titan blacks is what really pushes rendering times down. It's a highly parallelized task, so gpu's have a huge advantage over cpus.

yea i know i need a desktop gpu and i'll probably get a gtx 760 or better but wondering what type of highend cpu should I be looking at cause it took me 2 days to render 800x600 3d animation frame by frame I need to get that down to minutes hopefully seconds

There is a very noticeable difference in rendering between Gaming GPUs and professional GPUs. You want to be really, really careful if you're going to make that decision. I think it's only the high-end Nvidia cards Titan, TitanZ or Titan Black, and maybe not all of them even) that have play on both sides of this fence. I can't find it now, but there are articles on the web that can show you the difference - and it's not just speed.
