i am building a new computer in a few months but i am having a hard time on whether i should buy the new intel 5820k cpu coming out next month with a new mobo and ddr4 ram to go with it. or buy the i7 3930k and mobo to go with it and stay with 16gb ddr3 2100mhz,2400mhz ram. i will be using the pc for gaming and photo and video editing.i want a six core to last me 4-6 years and if games start using more then 4 cores. components will be water cooled in a 900d case.

More about : intel 3930k intel 5820k

Get the Core i5 5820K if you don't have a socket 2011 board yet.

The 6-core won't matter to gaming in the next six years. You will see an advantage to video editing/converting of up to about 40% or so.

*I also recommend the i7-5820K if the price is near the $400 estimated.

**A DDR4 setup isn't going to give you much if any benefit. We're not yet at the point that a CPU needs more than DDR3 can provide.

I'm only recommending Haswell-E due to the price of the i7-5820K.

Make sure the TOTAL COST of the system makes sense. Compare the i7-5820K + Motherboard + DDR4 memory to the cost of an i7-4930K + Z97 Motherboard + DDR3

Both should be similar performance so again get the cheaper build.
