I have a 600w power supply hooked up to a GTX 770 from gigabyte. I want to trade it om a r9 280x vapor x edition from saphire theo only problem is the specs for the 770 says it uses 6-Pin / 8-Pin ad the r9 says it uses 8-PIN to 4 PIN x2. Would I be able to use the same power cable from my PSU for the vapor x?

You should have no issue as again you only need the proper number of 6-pin and/or 8-pin which I'm guessing is 1x6-pin and 1x8-pin.

*The "8-pin to 4-pin" (and "6-pin to 4-pin") is an adapter to get power from MOLEX 4-pin power connectors for power supplies that don't have the proper 6/8-pin connectors AND have sufficient power for this to work. You won't need this, and in general shouldn't even use it.

Not sure why you are switching card though since a GTX770 and R9-280X are almost identical.

^+1 to why are you changing the card? A 770 is ranked 10th on the Passmark site, the 280x is 16th. Realistily they are just about the same speed and the 770 is actually faster according to the PassMark benchmark they collected. Unless you just like AMD better and are doing an even trade, you are not gaining anything. You are actually going backwards since you also need to clean up the video drivers and install new ones, plus deal with the power adapters.
