So I finally got my pc to turn on and post and connect to the TV via HDMI. I inserted the windows 8 disc into the disc drive to boot, and booted. It should have gone right into installation.

However, it did not, and instead showed a message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". So I pressed a key, and the message kept layering.

So, I went into the BIOS and decided to do a boot override to boot directly to that optical drive, and the same message showed up. I really don't understand and I could use some assistance! Could it be a problem with my optical drive? Or with something else? I checked the boot sequence and there is only one item there, so either the hard drive or the optical drive is not registering.

Solution
Try powering down, disconnect both drives, then boot to BIOS. Check the boot priority is still set for your ODD, then save & exit and power down. Reconnect the drives and boot to BIOS again and see if both drives show up.
