Alright so I'm trying to build a PC for $550 including OS ($450 without PS) for the first time. I want to play most of the games this upcoming October, specifically GTA V and NBA 2K15 (next gen graphics) at 40+ FPS on high-ultra (more focused on the high settings tho, I'm not aiming for ultra right now with my budget) on a 1600x900 resoultion monitor.

So this is my build right now that I've come up with:

- CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 OCing to 4.5 GHz
- GPU: XFX R7 265
- Mobo: H81 something
- RAM: 4GB DDR3 1600
- HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM
- Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO
- Optical Drive
- Mouse & keyboard
($559 with OS)

Alright so what do you guys think? Should I go with this config or is there a better build for the same price?

Also if it can't run those games in the setting I want with the FPS I want, will it be better if I just dumb the resolution of the screen down to 1280x720??

Thanks in advance. I'm a first time PC builder with a tight budget so I really need you're help.

Dropping your game's resolution to something other than your monitor's native resolution will usually look far, far worse than just adjusting the other detail settings. That should be your last resort in most cases.

But I don't think that will be a serious problem. I think this config will handle most games at 900p just fine.

Someone else suggested the 750 Ti, but the only reason to get that over the R7 265 is if you'll have trouble powering the 265. You'll be better off just getting a proper power supply in the first place, then going with the cheaper and slightly faster...

I say that you get an Amd processor I prefer intel but seeing as you mention GTA V I would suggest getting an AMD cpu and gpu as these will be optimised for AMD like the consoles and the rest of next gen games will have the same case. Or maybe save a little more and be able to afford better. And have you considered used or refurbished? And I do highly doubt that with these components you will be able to do that res and high/ultra. I say save more 6gb ram minimum and a lot better cpu possibly research gpus more overclock it all build it yourself, etc and this hurts to say this but for what you want on your budget have you thought about buying a console? (But I will always say PC is better)
