Hi, I build a PC in order for gaming and I can play everything brilliantly apart from the Sims 3, graphics settings are on medium and it looks fine it's just so much lag when I try to do anything.

I've tried the only fixes, I've removed all cc, fresh installs and still the same problem, here are my specs

AMD PHENOM IIX6
RADEON 7750 1GB
4GB RAM

More about : sims lag

Possibly the RAM. Especially if you have lots of add-ons or mods. My GF is a sims 3 nut, has almost everything and 4GB was a big crutch for her till we built her a new PC, AMD 6350, 8GB and only a 5450 GPU. It's not a highly GPU usaged game, but RAM, it eats. So much stuff to track. If your RAM is used full out, then your system has to go to the page file, and that slows and lags everything out.

Hm, interesting observation getochkn.

With my old setup (Phenom II 955 BE, 4 GB RAM and AMD 6950 2GB) I was running Sims 3 on max settings and had to actually download a FPS limiter (the game doesn't limit your frame rates for some reason) because I was getting 200+ FPS which was causing a high coil whine.

I don't think it is related to the amount of RAM the OP has.

vantagebuilde, are you using Windows 8.1 by any chance? I read somewhere there were some problems with Windows 8.1 and Sims 3.

Mouldread, no I'm on Windows 7 SP1 and I will look into a fps limiter, anything you recommend??

Getochkn, I'll have to look into the ram, but it's a bit risky because I don't want to upgrade to risk it not working.

Download something like openhardwaremonitor, and max sure the min, max columns are shown, and start up the game.

Play for a while and check out your max RAM usage, GPU usage, CPU usage. If your RAM usage hits 100%, then that could be your bottleneck.

Also, did you install the base AMD drivers/

@Mouldread

Was that the base sims 3, or did you have 10054535 expansion packs installed like my GF did. lol.

Hello again vantagebuilder, you don't need a FPS limiter, I was merely giving an example that my game was working so well that I had to actually forcefully limit the GPU performance to avoid it coil whining.

If your other games are working fine then I guess you will have to try and find a solution specifically for the Sims 3.

Here is their technical support forum - maybe they can help you out.

Haha, no, no 10054535 expansions installed. I guess it would impact your RAM if you did.

P.S. I'm generally not a big fan of community mods for any games due to a big percentage of them being poorly coded/created/optimized.
