Dual Channel 1866 mhz ram displaying as 1600?

Hi everyone,

So I just built a new rig (fairly new to this) and I have a concern regarding my memory speed.
For starters here are my basic specs.

AMD FX 6300 Processor

AsRock 960GM / U3S3 FX Motherboard

8 GB G.Skill Ares 1866 Mhz (F3-1866C9D-8GAB)

So I installed my memory and in the bios it displays my memory as dual channel 1600mhz (800 mhz per stick)

Shouldnt this be 933 mhz per stick / 1866 mhz total? on my motherboards website / manual it says it supports up to 1866. But there is also an (oc) symbol after that. Does that mean in order to use 1866 i have to overclock the ram in BIOS? Im confused :/

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

You aren't overclocking because that is it's max rated speed. So all your doing is uping the speed to it's max speed, the speed it's designed to operate at.

Now of you had 1600mhz rated RAM and uped it to 1866mhz then that would be overclocking.

Im not seeing any profile or equivalent, however on my overclocking tab I do have the ability to change my latency, timings etc... I can also select from 4 predefined clock speeds. 800, 1333, 1600 and 1866.

that should be the XMP profile then, select 1866 and see if it works.

Ok I will and report back. In the mean time, what exactly am I overclocking by selecting this, Am I overclocking my ram to its stock speeds lol? Or is this strictly related to the mobo. (very new to OCing cant you tell haha)

Ahhh ok that makes sense!

I set my clock speed in the BIOS and booted to windows, CPU-Z now displays my memory frequency as DDR 935.1 (x2) which would equal 1868mhz. which is fine?
So I think we did it! Thanks a bunch mate!
