WiFi slow on 2.4Ghz band

Hi this is my first post!

I'm with Virgin Media broadband and I'm paying for 60mbps. I had the virgin media superhub gateway which worked fine until several weeks ago, the speed suddenly went to 0 - 10mbps from checking on speed test.net. I used to get 40-60mbps.

I'm not very knowledgeable with networks so I rang up virgin and they changed my channel and I received faster speeds but then all of a sudden it went back to slow speeds after putting the phone down.

I decided to buy a new router. The superhub gateway needed replacing anyway. I bought an Asus rt66u after reading great reviews on it.

I installed it correctly and upgraded the fitmware to the latest merlin build. The speed was perfect. I was receiving 40 - 60mbps on the 2.4Ghz and 50 - 60mbps 5Ghz band.

It's been a few days since then and the speed has decreased to about 10mbps. I played around with the settings and used a WiFi analyser to see which channels were being used by my neighbours. I tried all 1, 6 and 11 channels. Still no luck.

I don't know what else to do, my ISP isn't helping at all and the router isn't making any difference (Although the speed on the 5GHz band is perfect).

On the 2.4GHz band, I sometimes get great test results on speedtest.net but still get slow speeds.

I'm stuck basically. I'd be grateful if anyone could help me. Thanks.

Solution
Sounds like interference on the 2.4 GHz frequency. It may be wireless phones, or a microwave oven, perhaps if not yours, it may be from a nearby neighbor.
Wow it sounds like you are getting some interference in the 2.4Ghz band. It looks like you have done all the things you need to do like changing channels between 1,6, and 11 and using an analyzer to see what your neighbors are doing. Make sure your 2.4Ghz band is set to 20Mhz channel width and not 40 or auto. Do all your 2.4Ghz devices have the same problem?

I've set the channel width to 20MHz when playing around with the settings, still no luck.
