I have the 7727-5FU model Lenovo PC

(third from bottom on this list)
http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/system_...

I wanted to upgrade my video card and also needed to upgrade the PSU considering it was 280W.

I bought:
PSU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EB7UIZU/ref=oh_aui_...

Card: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FSC5N66/ref=oh_aui_...

The new PSU works with my old hardware fine. But when I install the new video card the fans will spin but no signal will come through. Any ideas?

1000W is so overkill for this build.
Did you make sure you plug in all the required PCIE power cable into the gpu?
Did you plug your monitor to the graphic card directly?

I sure hope it all works out for you prebuilt don't take to upgrading most times

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..

it not going to matter i'll assume they put a pci-e power limit on that board or something like that as in the pci-e slot is only getting lets say 35w of the full 75w the card needs to work

so if the card requires 75w pci-e slot -- 75w pci-e 6 pin and 150w from the 8 pin his board is short 40w at the slot for the card to work

but I hope I'm wrong on this

Yes I plugged in the power cables to the GPU.
Yes I plugged in directly from monitor to GPU.

If it turns out to be a BIOS problem can I solve that by getting a different motherboard?

As mentioned above, the proprietary motherboard could be the issue or it can also be the card's fault. There has been issues with black screen with the AMD R9 series but it should be fixed now/soon.
The problem could be solved by getting another motherboard but that will also require a new window license as well.

if prebuilts were so easy to up grade we would not need all these custom boards to do our builds --right ?? why spend 1000's on a custom rig when you could just get a 600$ hp and slap a vid card in it and if the board took nice cards why dont they offer them as a factory upgrade??

them boards are the lowest thing they can put in there to get it out the door as is and sell it

it don't have nice top end 8 or 12 phase vrm's and all that jazz that supports and will hold up top end parts -- and I would feel if the card did go to working it would end up putting stress on the boards power and smoke it out down the road cause its not built for these things
