I think you would have better luck with HDMI - > DVI.
HDMI -> VGA may need an active converter.
You may have some luck with component to VGA, but that would be interlaced and may not look good.
The screen has a resolution of 1440x900. So 1080P is not going to happen without some kind of scaling happening(then it would not be actual 1080p).
