So i installed the kraken g10 with an h55 to my r9 290, it idles at 40 degrees and vrm around 50-60 degrees, i don't have any extra heat sinks installed. The problem i am having is when i play any games even though my gpu temp stays below 60 degrees and the vrm temps stay below 85 degrees the card still black screens on me, i can't even get through a single Heaven benchmark without it happening.

The only thing i can think of is the Vram in getting too hot or maybe because i don't have a fan plugged into the gpu whenever it tries to ramp the fan speed up it crashes itself because it does not detect one.
This problem just started since i installed the Kracken G10 + h55, anyone have any issues like this or might know a solution?

i tried the heatsinks on the memory and the problem still persists, so i put the stock heatsink back on and that fixed the issued so since the gpu and vrm temps were low when it was happening i am assuming the memory was just getting too hot even with heatsinks installed on them. maybe my cards memory just runs a lot hotter than the average one. In any case hopefully newegg will take back the kraken g10 and the Gelid kit i bought from them. This was a lesson well learned for me, next time i will just buy a card with a custom cooler on it as the only reason i tried the kraken g10 was to reduce the noise the 290's reference cooler made, but i guess i cannot complain having only purchasing it used for $160.

You dont seem to be learning the right lesson.

The Kraken G10 and AIO watercooling the 290 and 290x is proven. The fact you have had a bad experience doesnt negate the fact the solution works.

I would doubt it is your memory that is too hot unless you are not running with a fan on the bracket. If the memory is getting so hot it is causing a problem your card is faulty in some way. I would have RMAd the card before the Kraken and water cooler..

VRMs cant see them being the issue as they can run over 120 degrees.

Have you done a driver reinstall .. I know it shouldnt matter but ...

You could test your fan theory by attaching the stock cooler (extend the stock cooler fan cable and connect position the stock cooler outside your case (or prop it up somehow) with the kraken still fitted)

Is your AIO Pump connected to your power supply directly or to a fan header on your motherboard ? It is possible it isnt getting enough power if it connected to the motherboard.

I wasn't saying the Kraken G10 was a bad solution for the 290 or that it wasn't proven to work, I was simply saying in my case it just wasn't viable as i was getting black-screens fairly often with it, even with heatsinks installed on my memory and vrm's.
The reason i came to the conclusion that the memory was the problem was because the gpu temperature was consistently low and so were the vrm temperatures, since i can't monitor the memory temps i assumed they were overheating, re-installing the stock cooler and having the problem completely fix itself reassured me even more that either the memory temps were to blame or there might be another component on the card apart from those 3 that was overheating that the stock cooler was cooling better.
I did re-install the drivers multiple times i even tried using the beta drivers, that didn't help, i also had the pump plugged into a 3 pin to molex adapter for my power supply.
I do agree with you that in a situation where someone could rma the card instead of the kraken g10 and cooler i would as there is clearly an issue my card is having that others don't, but as i stated i did buy the card used and knew the consequences of doing so, but luckily for me the card does work perfectly fine with the stock cooler and i even have a 14% overclock on it running fine, i just won't be able to reduce the noise of the card.

As a side note to anyone else using the stock cooler on their r9 290, when i used the thermal past that came with my cooler master hyper evo 212 on the 290 my temps no longer stay at 94 degrees in games instead it stays at around 92, witch i think reduces any thermal throttling the card may have been having, so if you are up to removing the heatsink some new thermal past could help you a little bit.
