I have a MSI 970a g-46 board and i have tried all the possible ways to update my bios to the latest version (2.6) and every time the pc reboots after the bios said it was successful it send me back to the choose to update bios menu. I am so annoyed by all this. I am stuck at version 1.B or 1.11 and want to update but its not updating.

I am also running Windows 8.1 just to let you know.

Help me!!!!

I followed all these steps http://

When i install it in windows mode the computer restarts it give me
" An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drivers that don't contain an operating system"

Also when i do get it to install in dos mode, it installs and asks me to reboot but when it reboots, it send me back to the first step (page 12 of the SOPA.pdf) instead of continuing with the flash (page 14 of the SOPA.pdf)

I'm very confused about this and i even used the msi Hq bios update tool and it does install the bios update but when i go check bios version, its still the previous one meaning that the update did not happen.

Have you tried using MSI Live Update to update the bios?

Hi,
I've just used MSI live update 6 and let it do its thing. Unfortunately its started updating the bios before I checked whether it was a safe program to use. My board is an MSI gd65 z87. Its been sitting on a please wait screen for over 20mins now. Its not frozen and seams to be OK, yet its only working on one update. Should I leave it or end the program?

I wonder, what are the chances of MSI having fixed such a risky program by the time I downloaded it. I'm sure it must be quite slim. However, if I have to RMA it, I will be a little more than slightly upset. A strongly worded letter we be all I can do, for now. You never know, it could be the straw that broke the camel's back. They may finally fix the program.

I've not heard of Biostar. I guess that's how clued up I am of late. I think after 50mins I'm going to end the program. I cant see any update taking so long?

I can't say for sure, but generally bios flash files are very small, few megs at most.. So it should really be a quick process.

Biostar is uhm... not well known for a reason :p

If you can get a full return on your board, i suggest going with Gigabyte or Asus :)

That would be a great idea for my next build later this year. I was thinking an Asus x79 deluxe. For now the good news is, the boards ok. The program wasn't doing anything fortunately.
Thanks again for you input and advice.

Do you have .net 4 framework installed? That's required for live update.
Do you have liveupdate 5 or 6? cause 6 is the newest one available from MSI.
Try booting the computer into Safe Mode with Networking (Start > Run > msconfig > press enter > Boot Tab > Safe Mode with Networking option) and then trying to do a Live Update of the bios. (you may have to reconnect to the internet if you use wireless)

Hi, I've formatted my flash drive, copied the files over. In bios i opened m-flash, selected the flash drive. It then say's, " No files found. Please copy into the sub-folder". This is a little strange. I even checked a video tutorial which was successful and identical to how I approached it. Any thought please?

I think you should unzip the rar in your flash drive, you will found that your flash drive have a new folder named bios version.

Did that first. Not to worry though, I rebooted back to BIOS with the flash drive in another slot. This worked. Funny enough the latest BIOS update amongst others is for issues with USB. Thanks all for the assist.
