Hi - I bought a new Toshiba Satellite laptop this week - my first laptop. Of course it came with Windows 8. My priority was (still is!) to install Windows 7. I like to run my PC(s) with all data on a separate drive and had no idea how to set this up on W8 so figured I'd just go with W7 since I know that inside out. To this end, I installed EASUS Partition Pro in W8, and requested it to resize the HDD partition. Anyway, after a bit of grunting, the laptop tried to reboot and now all I get is a 0xc0000225 error screen. From that, I have entered the UEFI Settings. Seems straightforward ... but no. I configured settings to take standard Fn keys, saved that, no problem. However, thereafter, no matter WHAT I do, I cannot save a change to make the boot priority CD/DVD. F10 is ignored. Likewise F8.

I am at my wits' end as I live in the middle of nowhere and can't just take the thing to a dealer. I'd HUGELY appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

Solution
There should be an option in the bios called secure boot.
Disable it.
save the setting an exit the bios.
let the machine restart.
Enter the bios again and you should be able to change the boot order.
The 0xc0000225 error is because of two things, the boot record or the state of the drive was changed when you used Easus to resize the partition, and also the type of format the new partition was created in options are NTFS or GPT.
The existing drive as it was mostly would of been formatted to GPT file system.
Secure boot notes this if enabled in the bios.
And can often prevent programs such as EASUS from completing a partition creation and a format of the partition.
You also have watch out for the fact the boot partition of the drive is...

You also have watch out for the fact the boot partition of the drive is modified.
Again if secure boot is enabled in the bios loading of the HD or boot will be stopped.

Also if the boot record is changed. Then the interface type may of been set wrong when doing the new partition.
So try and set the HD mode to AHCI mode, and not Sata mode.

Any modification to the drive with secure boot enabled in the bios.
Will cause an error it does not like changes to the boot partition or changes made via extra partitions, or re size of them or other types of format used.

Hi Shaun - thanks a lot. In fact I had already disabled the secure boot. In the end the solution was to use the keys on the UEFI screen correctly!! Through trial and error I have just now figured that out - a combination of Tab key and arrows that is NOT explained in the ons screen help. Anyway, I am installing W7 as we speak. :) Many thanks again.
