For gaming? No. If you have $20000,then it's worth it.
i5 4690K and a Z97 motherboard is enough for gaming.
But if you really want it,then you can get it.The CPU is priced at $1130,so double the price of that combo.

4th Gen i7 Extreme Edition CPUs?
They're not needed for a gamer.i5 4690K is an excellent choice for a gaming CPU.
i7s,i7 Extreme Edition CPUs and Xeons are all meant for editing,rendering and multitasking.They don't give you much of a performance boost when gaming over an i5.
I'm not saying that i7s and Xeons are bad choices,I'm saying that you don't need them if you do gaming ONLY.
