Hello, I have a Dell Precision 490 and recently bought a HD 6870 which required 2 6-pin power connectors, everything fit perfectly however I couldn't find the 2nd 4-pin connector, would anyone have any idea where it could be? My molex 4-pin to 6-pin doesn't reach the graphics card so I'll probably have to do this 'pigtail', or is their an easier way like an extender?
Is anyone in a similar situation? I'm sure this graphics card works with this workstation as I've seen other builds on the internet.
Also, if it comes to it, I might have to upgrade the power supply, I've read that it requires a unique power supply, anyone know anything?
Please reply, thanks :)

'Pigtail' connector is probably a slang term for an adapter cable. The connector adapts a 4-pin Molex PSU Connector to a 6-pin PCI-E x16 Power Connector. This would be necessary to supply the two PCI-E x16 6-Pin Power Cables required for the HD6870.

As for your queries about the Dell Precision's PSU requirements: Almost all modern PSUs have a 20/24-pin ATX Motherboard Connector. Many of them feature a connector with an optional extra 4-pin attachment for compatibility with 20-pin and 24-pin connector formats.

I didn't notice the Dell has a 750w PSU so you don't need to worry about a PSU upgrade assuming your above quote is correct and you can adapt a molex connector to the other PCI-E x16...
The Radeon HD6870 requires 2 6-Pin PCI-E x 16 power connectors. It also requires a minimum of a 500w Power Supply Unit.

The Dell Precision 490 comes equipped with 1 PCI-E x16 1.0 Graphics Slot. Note that this is not a 2.0 or a 3.0 Graphics Slot, and as such will bottleneck newer Graphics Cards, restricting them from performing at their maximum potential.

I'd recommend you purchase a 500w PSU that comes equipped with two PCI-E x16 6-Pin Power Connectors. That will allow operation of the Radeon HD6870.

The Dell Precision as far as I know can only run with power supplies with "20-Pin Mini ATX System Board Connector and 24-Pin ATX Motherboard Power Connector". Would you know any possible power supply upgrades?
Anyways, the 6870 should work with my PC, this is how someone else got something similar to work:
"I had a tempermental first run nVidia GTX 670 that had loads of problems in another rig so I replaced it with an AMD HD 7970. The nVidia GTX 670 runs just fine in the Precision 490. Since the 490 has a 750W power supply as native equipment, the two 6 pin requirements were a snap.. It already had one, and I used a pigtail for the second from unused 4pin molex connectors. The nVidia website sniffed out the card without a problem and downloaded the latest drivers."
Could you clarify what he did for me? Especially the "pigtail" part, im a newbie at this stuff lol.
Thank you for your help! :)
