Windows 7 re install

Hello, I'm new to the forum and the hdd in my acer 5741 has crashed and I am going to replace the hdd. How do I re install windows whenI insert the new hdd? Do I have to buy a new copy? Thanks, Jethro

You have the install media and the license key?
No need to buy a new copy if all you are doing is changing the hard drive.

Thanks for the reply, I have a full backup and the key but I think the PC shop has the install disk

They kept the install disk? They shouldn't.
Situations just like this is why you should have it. You bought it, it's yours.

To be honest I'm not exactly sure, is it possible that windows 7 could have been pre-installed?

Depending on where and how you bought it, yes, it might be preinstalled/OEM.
Is the license key printed on the case somewhere?

You can download the relevant Windows 7 ISO here:

Unsure if that will work with an OEM license (if that is what you have)

Yes, then that is a preinstalled OEM license. Try the ISO download from above. It might work. If it doesn't, contact Acer for a replacement install.
