Hi I have a I7 4770k and I OC to 4.2 at 1.20v and on real temp it shows the 4 cores jump to 100 degrees C, is that normal or do I need to adjust something?

Peak core temps are what you should be watching. Ideally you want the temps in the 70s or lower. 80s isn't dangerous, but I wouldn't recommend running it at those temps for extended periods. If you get into the 90s, I'd dial back the clock some, or get a better cooler.

Are all of your fans maxed? If not, I would crank them up - maxing the case fans will help your V6 work more efficiently.

I would either dial back your clock, or see if you can lower your core voltage to reduce the temps. Are you running the blend test or the small FFTs. If those temps are with the blend test, I would dial back the clock AND try to walk back your voltage.

I put the bios back to default and the temps are in the 70 during prime95, I would think that the i7 4770k would be able to oc at 1.200v and not shoot to 100 degrees what am I doing wrong?

It's entirely possible that you aren't doing anything wrong and that you've just got a hot chip. There are a number of factors that have to be taken into account - ambient temperature, case cooling, thermal paste, cooler, PSU quality, temp monitoring program accuracy, which stress test you use, to name just some of them. One of the biggies is the peculiarities of your chip - every chip can behave differently at different voltages and temps. I bought a 4770k in January and can't get the sucker over 3.9GHz - a friend gave me one last night to play with and it went to 4.2 without breaking a sweat.

Thanks Volcano
I'm new at this and don't know the volts-ghz
whats the stock voltage and how many volts did it take to get to 3.9?

The "stock voltage" can vary depending on your system. If you've got everything set to default, the voltage you're showing idling at 3.5GHz is your stock voltage. It's not necessarily the lowest voltage that your system can run on and remain stable. I've reconfigured my systems, but I think that mine defaulted to 1.21V, but I could run it stable at around 1.1V. Once I got it around 1.23 or 1.24V I couldn't keep the temps under control, so 3.9GHz at 1.22V was the effective ceiling. You can use my numbers as a reference, but there's no telling whether yours will behave the same.

You can go to a liquid cooler if you want, but whether it's worth the expense of upgrading or not depends on what it is you're trying to achieve and how thick your wallet is. Personally, I prefer air for the simplicity, reliability and noise levels. A high-end air cooler can match most CLC systems - to really take advantage of liquid cooling you'd need to build yourself a custom loop.

I would recommend thoroughly testing the limits of your current system before you make any component changes. Can you post your build details?

I have the Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Tower, i7 4770k with the v6 cool master Heatsink- Asus Z87 sabertooth Mobo, corsair 750w psu, Msi GTX 770 lightning soon to be SLI, 16gb Vengence ram.

I need to get a different PSU going for 1000w to future prof.

It doesn't look like my cooler is going to cut it I had the it at 3.9 and then 3.8 and still getting 90c on Prime95, I don't want to risk it anymore- I'm kind of disappointed thou because I payed the extra money for over clocking and this chip look s like it doesn't want to budge.
