Just got a PB278Q and was going to calibrate it. Manuals and the internet show there are a bunch of modes available in the Splendid menu of the OSD, but I'm not seeing a User mode.

I have Scenery, Standard, Theater, Game Mode, Night View Mode and sRGB.

I'm wondering which mode would be best to use as there doesn't appear to be a User mode. Seemingly there are adjustable settings under Game Mode, but nothing like "6500k".

There is a "user" setting under the color temp where you can adjust RGB values but I assume this isn't the actual user mode.

A lot of articles are reviews are from 2012-13 - is this just a new firmware with no User mode or am I missing something?

That's because it's not the original model of the PB278Q. They released a PB278QR in June of 2014, which is the "Professional version" of the PB278Q. When that happened, it appears they changed the PB278Q as well. They're the same monitors, less customization features like you mentioned, but it does have some better benefits. I'm sure that's the manufactured date on your piece, Jun 14. Also, the buttons on the lower right side are just dots, not detailed descriptive pictures on the previous make. I bought my monitor off of Amazon.com.

The link below is to the new 2014 user guide for the PB278QR, but it states that it is the PB278 series guide when you actually read it. It will tell you what features the PB278QR can do that ours cannot.

Aha, it does have the dots and I just got it off Amazon as well! Thanks Durward - I was thinking maybe they had sent me one of the first off the line from the back room. Newer is usually better right?

So, as a part two - if there is no user mode, which mode would you recommend for casual gaming? I see a bunch of notes in the manual about how certain settings aren't changeable in certain modes. I'm not certain I trust the "Gaming" setting for actual gaming either, as I'm looking for better picture quality over performance (input lag for fps's etc).

I've been using Standard mode, but I'm not sure it's the best - using Disney Wow tools, the brightness is 0 for example. I'd prefer more color pop but man I can't stand grays when it's supposed to be black.

I also seem to have the newer version of the PB278Q, so I am following this thread to find the same answer as the OP.

Also, what other advantages does the new version has over the older PB278Q?
